Terrific Trees!
In our trees topic, we think about the importance of trees throughout the world. We look at trees in many different climates and consider the sustainability of forestry. Studying the variety of trees in our school grounds helps us to understand how to recognise and classify of native British trees; a trip to the Eden Project gives experience of identifying more exotic trees and plants. This also leads us to consider global issues, particularly the importance of tropical rainforests and the problem of deforestation. For more information about the problem of deforestation, follow these links:
Entertainment
Through Time
In the second half of the Autumn term, our attention moves to Entertainment. This topic is all about celebrating entertainment past and present, indoor and outdoor, home and abroad. The children study the history of all things relating to leisure, especially focusing on a historical era of their choice. This enables the children to see what entertainment was like in different times in history, and compare and contrast the experiences of people at that time. They also explore theatres and discovere how they have changed throughout history, beginning with the amazing Ancient Greeks!

The children then specifically focus on the life and times of two famous entertainers: Shakespeare and Dickens – comparing Tudor and Victorian life. As part of our English work, we study Macbeth (Shakespeare) and A Christmas Carol (Dickens).
As part of this topic, we also make moving toys. This process goes all the way from conception and design to completion of the product and evaluation. Look at the photo album below to see how we got on!
