St Marys Catholic Primary School
At St. Mary's we place the children at the heart of everything we do

Spring Term

At the beginning of the Spring Term, once the children are settled in school each child in the Reception Class is assigned a buddy from Class 5. The purpose of this is to help the children in developing their confidence and to be supported during times of transition. The children then meet weekly to work together on a series of planned activities. All the children look forward to this special time together.
Our topic in the Spring Term is 'Other Cultures'. During this topic we find out about special festivals and celebrations in other cultures. The children particularly enjoyed finding out about the Chinese New Year and attempting to copy Chinese writing. They retold the story of the Chinese Zodiac and found out which year they were born in.
In the latter part of the Spring Term we learn about Minibeasts and the children enjoy being out and about in the school grounds. The natural environment enhances and supports the children's learning and interests.
As part of our learning about 'Plant Hunters' we visited Glendurgan Gardens to learn about the Fox Family, one of the original Cornish Plant Hunters.
