At St. Mary's we place the children at the heart of everything we do

Autumn Term

In the Reception Class we are always very busy learning both in and outside of the classroom. We follow a play based curriculum with a balance of child initiated and adult led activities where children are encouraged to follow their own interests and become independent and resourceful learners.
As part of our 'Marvellous Me' focus and settling in to school, we have been encouraging relationship development through play. The children have enjoyed having 'tea parties' with their friends. They have been exploring through their senses, cutting and smelling herbs or making cups of lemon and lime 'tea', all whilst using their language to develop relationships with their new friends.
We have enjoyed using our fine and gross motor skills to mark make inside and outside of the classroom. We are all learning to write our names and spot sounds that we have learnt in our phonics lessons. We like to use oil pastels, paint, sand, pencils and shaving foam the most!
