Spring Term

For part of our Literacy focus during the first half of the Spring term we have been learning the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. We love storytelling in Reception class and enjoy learning storytelling actions to go with our stories. We have been making some super piggies, designing 3D models of homes and making maps of our story. We have been busy thinking of new ideas to innovate the story by thinking of new characters and types of homes.
As part of our 'Who is helpful and how can we be helpful in our community?' focus, Reception class have decided to make a food collection for those less fortunate. We have enjoyed discussing what we are grateful for and thought of some lovely prayers.
For the second half of the Spring term we have been exploring 'How does your garden grow?'
We have enjoyed using our senses to identify similarities and differences between seeds. We then planted our own seeds and watched them successfully grow. We also spent time setting up an experiment to test the best conditions for growth. We made some super observations of the natural world around us.
We LOVE Maths in Reception class! You'll find Maths everywhere in our classroom. Whether we are measuring using the balance scales or sharing out food in the role play; making patterns using paint or out of construction equipment; or exploring part part whole in our water tray ... our Mathematical minds are always at work! Take a look at what we've been exploring.
In our RE sessions we have been thinking about Lent and Easter time. We spoke about the meaning of the sign of the cross, discussed Lent and thought about how Jesus grew in love. We made our own Lenten promises and shared how we would like to grow in love, like Jesus.
