In the Reception Class we are always very busy learning both in and outside of the classroom. We follow a play based curriculum with a balance of child initiated and adult led activities where children are encouraged to follow their own interests and become independent and resourceful learners.
Our first trip in the Autumn term is to Newquay Zoo as part of our topic on 'Wild Animals and Safari'. The children meet Pippa the zookeeper and learn about some very special animals at the zoo.
This trip really enables the children's learning to come to life and supports our classwork back in school.
In the Autumn term we learn about the Harvest and why it is important for us to say thank you for all the fruits of the harvest. As part of our learning we visit Tesco in Truro and take part in the Harvest farm to fork trail. The children visit the bakery to learn how to make bread and taste lots of different breads.
In the Autumn Term we visit Truro Museum as part of our topic on Castles and Giants to learn about the Cornish giants of St. Michael's Mount.
Outdoor learning is an essential part of our provision in the Reception Class and the children will be outside whatever the weather. We provide waterproofs for the children to wear when needed and all the children have their own welly boots. Outdoor learning is particularly important for the children to learn to solve problems and work together. Much of our writing takes place outside as we follow the children's interests and take the learning to them.
